Educating Children in Troubled Regions

Gem Munro is a founding member of Amarok Society. Amarok is based on the principle that education is the only means by which the people in troubled areas of the world can move away from extremist violence and warfare to a world of peace, hope and prosperity. But simply opening new schools and trying to educate children has proven futile - it simply does not work. Amarok approaches the problem differently - they educate the women. The women then educate the children. In this way, community bonds are built, and the impact is immediate and sustainable. The women they educate are brave, strong and devoted. They face enormous threats of prejudice, intolerance and extremism so they can first learn and then teach the children of their communities.
